What Causes Cellulite and the Most Effective Cellulite Treatments

Cellulite on Woman's Legs

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is a term for the formation of lumps and dimpled skin.

Common names for cellulite are orange-peel skin, cottage-cheese skin, hail damage skin, and the mattress phenomenon.

Cellulite can affect both men and women, but it is more common in females, due to the different distributions of fat layer, muscles, hormonal factors, genetic factors, metabolism and connective tissue bands.

According to various studies between 80% to 90% women experience cellulite on their skin at some point in their lives.

Cellulite is a very common, harmless skin condition that causes lumpy skin, dimpled flesh on the thighs, hips, buttocks and abdomen. However, cellulite is a cause of frustration and embarrassment for many.

Why do women get cellulite more than man?

Most women, the fat cells and connective tissue in this layer are arranged vertically to develop cellulite. If the fat cells protrude into the layer of skin, this gives the appearance of cellulite. One theory involves the bands connecting your skin, your hypodermis (subcutaneous tissue) and deep muscle layers. In men, the tissue has a criss-cross structure, which may explain why they are less likely to have cellulite than women. Men also have thicker skin.

Main cellulite causing triggers

  1. The amount of cellulite you have and how noticeable it is can be based on your genes, body fat percentage, excess fat, weight gain and age.
  2. The thickness of your skin also affects the appearance of cellulite. After 20 years old, the human body starts to lose 1% of collagen production every year until 60 year old. Due to collagen production loss the skin loses elasticity and we can experience more cellulite. From 60 years old our body stops producing collagen altogether. That’s why over the years we are losing skin elasticity and our skin will be thinner which makes cellulite more visible. It is very important to take Marine Collagen liquid from the age of 20 until rest of your life to increase collagen and improve skin elasticity!
  3. Huge amounts of toxins in our lymphatic systems, which makes your lymphatic system foggy, decreases blood flow and causes a lot of cellulite. That’s why it’s important to detox the body at least three times a year. Toxins in the lymphatic system are the main reason actually why women have cellulite. The best way to improve the lymphatic system is with lymphatic compression massage. Read more here.
  4. Poor lymphatic system function.
  5. People who eat too much fat, carbohydrates, and salt and too little fibre are likely to have greater amounts of cellulite.
  6. It may also be more prevalent in smokers, those who do not exercise, and those who sit or stand in one position for long periods of time.
  7. Wearing underwear with tight elastic across the buttocks can limit blood flow, and this may contribute to the formation of cellulite.
  8. Foods that can cause cellulite:
  • Dressing, Sauces, And Spreads
  • Processed Meats And Cheese
  • Carbonated, Caffeinated and Alcoholic Beverages
  • Fast and Fried Foods
  • Sweets And Treats

What foods cause cellulite?

Foods like chips, baked goods, sodas, processed mixes, and meats can also spike inflammation. These foods also contain high levels of sugar, fat, and salt. Like complex carbs, these foods cause fat cells to enlarge, retain fluid and increase in toxins and cause massive cellulite problems and bloating. Also sparkling water causes a lot of cellulite increase.

PS! If a healthy woman eats healthy food, organic salad leaves, veggies etc. They will still have cellulite because salad leaves are the worst food to cause cellulite. WHY? Because they are grown with sprayed chemicals to keep bugs away. When we rinse salad leaves under the water, salad leaves, or veggies etc those toxic chemicals won’t be washed away, these are permeated and come internally in our body causing cellulite.

Why do I have cellulite but I’m skinny?

This can be influenced by genetics, hormonal changes, a poor diet and inactivity, and it doesn’t matter if you’re overweight or not. Yes, ‘skinny’ people can have cellulite too. Too much toxins are stuck in the lymphatic system from processed food, alcohol etc. Poor lymphatic system.

Will I have cellulite forever?

Despite the myths purported by the media, you do not have to live with cellulite forever. There are a number of effective treatments that are proven to reduce or eliminate cellulite.

Grades of cellulite forms

A cellulite severity scale, published in 2009, ranks the condition using four grades:

Grade 0: There isn’t any cellulite on your body.

Grade 1, or mild: There is an “orange-peel” appearance, with between 1 and 4 superficial depressions, and a slightly “draped” or sagging appearance to the skin. Your skin is smooth when you stand up, but mild dimpling appears when you sit down.

Grade 2, or moderate: There are between five and nine medium-depth depressions, a “cottage cheese” appearance, and the skin appears moderately draped. Your skin has moderate dimples when you stand up or when you sit down.

Grade 3, or severe: There is a “mattress” appearance, with 10 or more deep depressions, and the skin is severely draped. Your skin has severe dimples when you stand up or sit down.

Different Cellulite Grades on Women's Legs

Does cellulite mean you are fat?

Cellulite is the normal underlying fat underneath the skin. As your fat cells beneath build up, they push up through the connective tissue that holds your skin and muscle together.

Does cellulite go away with exercise?

You cannot get rid of visible cellulite from exercise alone. Though, losing weight, body fat and gaining muscle mass may help to reduce its appearance of cellulite, but won’t get rid of it. That’s why we need extra help from the right cellulite treatments which break down the fat, eliminate toxins and improve circulation to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

How long does it take to get rid of cellulite?

Every person is different, it depends on lifestyle, age, diet and what cellulite treatments you are doing. For some it can take only a few treatments, for others it can take 2-4 months with good consistency to get rid of cellulite.

How do I get rid of my cellulite?

The Clinical Dermatology has reviewed a number of techniques and cellulite treatments that may be successful in reducing the appearance of cellulite by breaking up the bands of connective tissue under the skin’s surface for noticeable reduction of cellulite.

Carboxy therapy involves inserting carbon dioxide gas under the skin. Side effects include temporary bruising and discomfort after the procedure, but some cellulite might disappear.

Endermologie involves a massage with a vacuum-like device that smooths and tightens the skin. The United States (U.S.) Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have approved it as safe, but there is little evidence that it works, say the AAD.

Beauty Shaper Cellulite treatment – involves vacuum suction and mechanical rollers to break down fat cells and improve lymph flow to eliminate toxins and cellulite. It’s a noninvasive body contouring treatment that also tightens and smooths the skin. Visible results after three sessions. Since Beauty Shaper is a noninvasive procedure, this can easily be done during a lunch time or for women with a busy schedule.

Roll Shaper treatment – Involves infrared heat and wooden mechanical rollers to destroy fat cells 2 centimetres under the skin. It also improves lymphatic and blood circulation to eliminate toxins. Roll Shaper treatment is 10 times more effective treatment than manual deep massage. It’s also noninvasive body contouring for the whole body. You can also benefit from relieving muscle tensions and smooth stretch marks with this treatment. Roll Shaper is the most effective way to eliminate cellulite, contour the body, recover muscles and improve lymphatic system circulation. Several treatment sessions are needed to get rid of cellulite. You can read more about Roll Shaper treatment here.

Cellulite body wrap – works well on the surface of the skin to reduce the appearance of cellulite, releasing toxins, fluids and swelling. It’s relaxing and usually 30 to 60 minutes per treatment. Sometimes people have cellulite because they have too much fluid retained by the body. Several treatments are needed and it depends on the cellulite grade. You can read more about Cellulite Body Wrap in here.

Studio Figura Detox set (supplement) – Flushing out toxins, increasing energy and reducing cellulite. Made from natural ingredients. If an internal detox (body cleanse) isn’t done, it is then impossible to get rid of cellulite completely. Overall, the best way and most effective to improve the appearance of the cellulite is to do Roll Shaper and Beauty Shaper Cellulite treatment combination to reduce cellulite, starting with a Detox.

Other Cellulite Treatments: Medications and Cellulite Creams

Some medications and cellulite creams have been proposed because they act on fatty tissues.

Caffeine with dry brushing dehydrates cells, making them less visible. This needs to be applied daily on the skin. Various caffeine creams for cellulite are available to purchase in online.

Retinol may reduce the appearance of cellulite by thickening the skin. At least 6 months’ use is needed to see results. It is important to try a patch test first, because some people have experienced adverse effects, such as a racing heart. Retinol treatments are available to buy in online. Retinol may cause other unpleasant side effects as well.

Studio Figura Cellulite Cream with a warming sensation that increases blood flow is developed to treat cellulite, reduce fat and moisturise the skin. It’s perfect to use daily if you have a job where you sit for long periods of time and can’t exercise enough. Studio Figura Cellulite Cream is also perfect to use before physical exercise to burn more fat.

Alternative solutions to reduce the appearance of cellulite

Alternative or supplemental therapies include caffeine, grape seed extract, herbal extracts, or gingko biloba. These agents have been applied topically, orally, and by injection, but none of them have been proven effective.

Some people wear compression garments to reduce the appearance of cellulite. These garments try to compress arteries and increase blood and lymph flow to reduce visible cellulite. Compression stockings and other garments may be purchased online.

Liposuction, plastic surgeons, laser treatment and dieting do not remove cellulite because it does not affect the structure of the connective bands.

However, reducing fat intake will mean having less fat to push through the tissues. Eating a healthful, balanced diet and exercise habits may, therefore, reduce the appearance of cellulite.

A 2015 review of a variety of studies into the effectiveness of different techniques indicated that either the procedures did not work, or the research methodology was flawed.
